What Is Profhilo?
Profhilo stimulates the growth of four different types of collagen and elastin to create a more youthful, revitalised look that can last for up to six to eight months.
It can be used on its own or to complement other injectable treatments.
It doesn’t add volume or ‘fill’ in the same way as dermal fillers but instead supports the underlying structure and tissues of your skin to improve its overall health.
One area where this really shows is around the cheekbones, which tend to take on the more rounded appearance of our younger days. The skin around the eyes looks rested and smoother too.
This is an ideal treatment for firming up and smoothing out crepe-textured skin on your neck as well as minimising accordion (smile) lines around your mouth and marionette lines that run from the nose to the chin. It’s also fantastic for fading away acne scars.

Step 1: Consultation
You’ll be asked to come to Aesthetics Lab for an initial consultation. During this appointment, we’ll take a complete medical history and find out as much as possible about your treatment goals. We’ll also explain a bit more about the patented science behind Profhilo and what you can expect from this treatment. Please feel free to ask lots of questions – we will always give you an honest answer.
Step 2: During your treatment
A treatment with Profhilo usually involves 10 injections into specific points of your face (five on either side). We use ultra-fine needles and most people find the treatment incredibly comfortable.
Like all of our injectable treatments, Profhilo is administered by our very experienced Aesthetics Doctor, Dr Liesel Holler.
Step 3: After the treatment
You may find that you have small bumps at the injection sites for three to four hours after your treatment where the product has yet to fully disperse. Generally speaking, Profhilo is great for minimising the chances of bruises and swelling but every person differs.
The results of your treatment should start to be visible after seven days and will continue to improve over several months.
The hyaluronic acid in Profhilo takes just 28 days to break down within the body so we always recommend a second appointment after four weeks. Together, these two treatments kick start a chain reaction of collagen and elastin production that should be visible for the next six to eight months.
Many people choose to have one or two top-up appointments throughout the year.
Frequently asked questions
At 64mg per 2ml, Profhilo is formulated with one of the highest concentrations of hyaluronic acid on the market. This makes it a highly effective product.
You would need two Profhilo treatments 28 days apart initially then a top-up treatment every six to eight months to maintain the results.
Dermal fillers usually contain BDDE (1,4-butanediol diglycidyl ether), which is a synthetic cross-linking chemical that helps to prevent the hyaluronic acid in the products from being broken down too quickly by the body.
Profhilo is BDDE-free, which means it appeals to people who would prefer to avoid the use of synthetic chemicals.
Instead, Profhilo uses patented technology to create high molecular weight and low molecular weight hyaluronic acid that works together within the skin. The smaller, high weight molecules hydrate the skin while the larger, low weight molecules plump and tighten.
Because Profhilo doesn’t use synthetic cross-linking chemicals, your body’s natural metabolic processes will break it down after approximately 28 days. However, by this time, the slow release of hyaluronic acid will have started a chain reaction to stimulate the growth of four different types of collagen and elastin. It will also help to hydrate your skin and strengthen the tissue.
This means that the results can last for up to six to eight months, after which you would need a top-up treatment to maintain the appearance achieved with Profhilo. As with all treatments, the results will differ from one person to the next.
